Jan Butterworth is a warm, approachable, professionally trained and very experienced counsellor and psychotherapist who has been practising in London and Leicestershire for more than ten years. As a Registered Member of the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), Jan is committed to providing therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
Since qualifying as a counsellor in 2006 she has also been the Chair of a large voluntary practice in the East Midlands and established busy private practices in Leicestershire and London. In addition to her psychodynamic counselling training she undertook a further professional four-year clinical training in attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the renowned Bowlby Centre.
Jan works with individuals who self refer and also organisations who wish to offer therapy to members of staff.
How can anyone decide what will be best, from all the different approaches offered?
Research tells us it is the relationship between therapist and client that makes the biggest difference to the successful outcome of therapy, far more than the model practised.
A relationship of mutual trust and respect is at the heart of effective work, so finding someone with whom you feel a comfortable connection will make all the difference!
I offer counselling, psychotherapy and relational psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
My thinking is underpinned by my core trainings, but my approach is shaped according to individual need.I work with people of many different backgrounds, cultures and life experiences and positively welcome and respect diversity and difference whether it is in ability, religion, sexuality, age, ethnicity or culture.
